Gather & Dye with Goldenrod
October 10, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Led by weaver and future Rocky Corner resident, Marie Pulito.
***************************************************************************************
Goldenrod is blooming everywhere at Rocky Corner, in the meadows and the ditches along the roads.
Did you know that there are many varieties? Did you know that it doesn’t cause allergies? Goldenrod is one of the last flowers to appear in fall and the pollinators are all over it. Flowers that produce pollen that depend on wind, rather than pollinators, cause many of our seasonal allergies
Goldenrod flowers produce a natural dye. We will gather the flowers together, perhaps even try to identify the varieties we find. Then we will boil the flowers in water, add a mordant and see what color it produces for our yarn or cloth.
Wear a sturdy shoes and a mask. We will, too.
Bring scissors and something small to dye – a skein of yarn or a kerchief or cloth mask – white would be best.
